Microbial Keratitis: Diagnosis and Management

Dr. Nakul Shekhawat
Ophthalmologist, Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Medicine, USA

Microbial keratitis (infectious corneal ulceration) is the leading cause of corneal blindness and the fifth leading cause of blindness worldwide. Blindness from corneal infections is particularly common in low- and middle-income countries, where delayed diagnosis and limited access to specialist expertise often drive poor outcomes. This one-hour webinar offers a practical framework for diagnosing and managing corneal infections caused by bacteria, fungi, amoeba, and viruses. Participants will learn initial steps in microbial keratitis management, including how to come up with a differential diagnosis, select appropriate diagnostic tests, start empiric therapy while awaiting confirmation, and tailor therapy to microbiologic testing results. We will also discuss more advanced topics, including how to tailor antimicrobial treatment based on testing results and high-quality evidence from the ophthalmology literature, perform a detailed examination to identify treatment responders and non-responders, select adjuvant therapies, and recognize when surgical intervention may be needed. Case-based examples illustrate common diagnostic pitfalls and management strategies. By the end of the hour, attendees should be able to triage corneal infections, perform initial management steps with confidence, treat in an evidence-based manner, and know when to refer to a specialist for more advanced care. 6th Annual Crandall Cataract Conference: Phacoemulsification with Zonulopathy – My Best Teaching Videos

Dr. David F. Chang
Ophthalmologist, Orbis International, USA

Join us for the 6th Annual Crandall Conference, hosted by Cybersight! This year, Dr. David F. Chang from the United States will conduct a master class on one of the most universally challenging situations in phacoemulsification – eyes with zonulopathy. Whether due to pseudoexfoliation, trauma, or other causes, zonulopathy complicates every surgical step– from the capsulotomy to nuclear and cortical removal, to IOL fixation. Besides preserving capsular integrity, long-term IOL fixation must be considered and optimized in eyes with pseudoexfoliation. The webinar will systematically cover surgical pearls and strategies for these challenges, each illustrated with Dr. Chang’s best teaching videos. Attendees will better understand the unique pitfalls of zonulopathy and learn practical strategies that every surgeon, regardless of experience, should be able to employ. (Webinar Level: All)

Ocular Surface Optimization Before Cataract Surgery

Dr. Bita Manzouri
Ophthalmologist, Barking Havering Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Ocular surface disease is highly prevalent among patients presenting for cataract surgery and, when unrecognised, can significantly compromise biometric accuracy and postoperative visual outcomes. Identification and management of conditions such as dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction prior to finalising IOL power calculations is therefore an essential component of modern cataract surgical planning. This talk will present a structured, evidence-based approach to preoperative ocular surface optimisation, from first-line interventions through to advanced in-office therapies, with practical guidance on establishing when the ocular surface is sufficiently stable for definitive biometry. (Level: All)

Neuro Or Not in Primary Eye Care: Neuro-Ophthalmic Identification, Differentiation, & Red Flags

Dr. Joey Kane
Optometrist, VA Boston, USA

Primary eye care providers frequently evaluate patients with decreased vision, visual field defects, optic nerve findings, or OCT changes that can mimic glaucoma or retinal disease. However, the true cause may be neuro‑ophthalmic. In this practical, case-based session, Dr. Joey Kane, OD, will share a structured approach to deciding when a presentation is “neuro or not neuro” versus a primary glaucoma or retinal problem, and which key findings should trigger urgent escalation. Attendees will learn efficient, chair‑side tips for history-taking and exam interpretation, with a focus on common pitfalls—such as confusing optic neuropathy for glaucoma, mistaking neuro‑visual complaints for macular disease, or over‑relying on imaging without clinical correlation. The webinar will emphasize actionable triage decisions: what to do today, what can be monitored, and how to effectively communicate concern when referring. (Level: Beginner & Intermediate)
