This lecture focuses on minimally invasive glaucoma surgical techniques, including patient selection, day of surgery, and follow-up pearls. It discusses the lack of clinical data for goniotomy initially, but later publication of studies showed sustained efficacy of goniotomy in lowering IOP across different stages of glaucoma. The video also covers the transition of KDB from the operating room to the laboratory for study, the discovery of scarring and fibrosis in trabecular meshwork, and the management of intraoperative bleeding. It advocates for a more nuanced approach to glaucoma therapy, discusses different devices and drug delivery options, and recommends optimal patient positioning for MIGS surgery.
Lecture Location: on-board the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
