Manual: Cataract Surgery for Greenhorns

This manual is meant to help inexperienced surgeons develop basic cataract skills.  We call it “Cataract Surgery for Greenhorns” as it is designed for the residents in our program at the University of Iowa.  ‘Greenhorn’ is an odd term that means ‘inexperienced’, often in reference to a cowboy.  This was meant to be in contrast to “cataract cowboy” which is a mildly-disparaging term for high-volume cataract surgeons in the US.

Some of the material may be too specific to our program, such as the first chapter “Training Plan” – but most of the of the document will have relevance to anyone learning cataract surgery.
