Surgery: Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK)

In this video, Dr. Lehmann demonstrates Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty or DALK in a patient with keratoconus. The central cornea is marked with a blunt trephine and a scleral tunnel is created up into the clear cornea. The anterior chamber is entered just superior to the descemet’s membrane and the endothelium. Blunt dissection of the posterior lamella of the cornea is performed using a spatula. The recipient button is removed carefully using corneoscleral scissors after doing a trephination. The descemet’s membrane is removed from the donor cornea and it is sutured to the recipient stromal bed.
