Lecture: Pediatric Ocular Emergencies and Trauma

During this lecture, we discuss the non-surgical and surgical management of the spectrum of pediatric eye emergencies. We review the current guidelines for different types of eyelid lacerations, hyphemas and pediatric open globe injuries. We discuss long-term sequelae of trauma including traumatic cataracts, glaucoma, corneal scarring and retinal detachment in the setting of amblyopia development. Finally, we learn how to counsel parents to best avoid ocular trauma in our patients. (Level: Beginner and Intermediate)
