Appropriate management of the pediatric cataract patient presents the ophthalmic surgeon with a unique set of challenges. The entire process, from diagnosis and evaluation to surgical intervention and postoperative care, is significantly different from that of the typical adult cataract patient. This is highlighted by the need for close follow up and support, both by the family and the ophthalmologist, to help the child develop vision and avoid amblyopia by employing appropriate optical correction and regular visual stimulation.
