About Me:
Dr. Jody Piltz-Seymour has provided subspecialty glaucoma care throughout the Philadelphia region for more than 30 years. She currently provides glaucoma care at Plessen Ophthalmology, an underserved clinic on St. Croix, USVI. Dr. Piltz-Seymour is on the faculty at the Wills Eye Hospital and is an Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Piltz-Seymour has worked with local physicians to advance glaucoma care in the developing world. With Orbis International, she has traveled to Ethiopia, Cameroon, and Vietnam. Collaboratively, she helped develop a comprehensive didactic glaucoma curriculum on the Orbis portal, Cybersight, which can be live-streamed internationally and viewed online. Through the Cybersight portal, Dr. Piltz-Seymour lectures virtually and acts as a Cybersight mentor consultant, reaching physicians around the globe. Dr. Piltz-Seymour has been a clinical researcher throughout her career. She served as principal investigator for the pivotal Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study, the Collaborative Initial Glaucoma Treatment Study, and the Low-Tension Glaucoma Study. She has also acted as medical monitor for optogenetic gene therapy trials in retinitis pigments and Stargardt disease. Dr. Piltz-Seymour has leadership roles in the major US and international societies, chairing and serving on program committees for AGS, ASCRS, WGC, and AAO. She has received the 2019 American Glaucoma Society Outstanding Educator Award and delivered the Surgery Day Lecture at the 2023 AGS annual meeting. She is the Associate Secretary for the American Academy of Ophthalmology Subspecialty Day, and has received an Achievement Award, Senior Achievement Award, and Lifetime Achievement Award from AAO. In 2016, she was honored with the Humanitarian of the Year award from the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology.
