About Me:
Lori Pacheco is a Certified Registered Nurse in Ophthalmology with over 30 years of experience in ophthalmology. Her career began in 1993 after earning a certificate in Surgical Technology, followed by graduating as a Registered Nurse from Brockton Hospital School of Nursing in 2003. She further advanced her credentials with a Professional Nursing Certification in Ophthalmology in 2008 and a Postgraduate Certificate in Surgical Ophthalmic Nursing in 2025. Lori’s clinical background is rooted in ambulatory care, with extensive experience in the perioperative environment as a scrub nurse. Her versatile skill set also includes circulating, preoperative, and postoperative patient care, and sterile processing. She has held leadership roles as the Director of Clinical Services for one of New England’s largest multi-subspecialty ophthalmology practices and Clinical Director for their ophthalmic surgery center on Cape Cod. Her commitment to global health is reflected in her volunteer work across low- and middle-income countries. Her journey in global health began in college, volunteering in health clinics throughout Central America and the Caribbean. Lori joined Orbis International in 2019 as a volunteer scrub nurse aboard the Flying Eye Hospital in Accra, Ghana, and now serves as Associate Director of Volunteer Experience and Engagement. In this role, she oversees the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of volunteer medical staff, collaborating with program teams, clinical leads, and partner institutions to align volunteer expertise with local training needs. Lori is a published author and respected speaker, having delivered over 30 presentations to national and international audiences. Her expertise includes standards in sterile processing and the handling of hazardous drugs in ophthalmic surgery. She has served on the National Certifying Board for Ophthalmic Registered Nurses and the board of the American Society of Ophthalmic Nurses (ASORN). Through education and sustainable knowledge transfer, Lori continues to empower ophthalmic nurses to deliver high-quality eye care in their communities and become leaders in their own institutions.
