About Me:
Saad Shaikh, MD, MBA, is a distinguished ophthalmologist and retinal surgeon with a career spanning several decades. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from UCLA and his medical degree from the UC Davis School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Stanford University, followed by a fellowship in retinal surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan. He also holds an MBA in Healthcare Management. Throughout his career, he has trained numerous surgeons, holds multiple university professorships, and contributed extensively to ophthalmic research. His interests in vitreoretinal disease include pediatrics, retinal surgery, infectious disease, and inherited dystrophies. His outside interests extend beyond surgery to mindfulness and the humanistic aspects of medicine. Beyond medicine, he is a certified yoga teacher and an avid traveler, photographer, and writer. Why did you want to become a Cybersight Mentor?
I have been mentoring through Orbis since 2006 and continue to find it one of the most meaningful parts of my career. I also serve as a tele‑mentor for Doctors Without Borders, driven by the same desire to help others and broaden access to quality care. I believe knowledge is a privilege, and sharing it with colleagues across the world allows that privilege to multiply where it is most needed. My goal has always been to disseminate what I have learned to those who can benefit from it, because ultimately we are all part of one human family. As Hippocrates said, “Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity.” This belief is what inspires me to continue serving through Orbis and beyond.
